Deputies Arrest 2 Men, Confiscate Semi-Automatic Rifle and Ammunition

MARIN CITY — Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men and confiscated a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition on Wednesday February 6th. The suspects are believed to be responsible for a shooting incident on Cole Drive, although apparently nobody was hit.

Deputies pursued the suspects along Drake Avenue, where one of the men apparently threw a weapon out a car window. The chase ended near Pacheco and Eureka streets.

One of the suspects remained inside the car and was arrested, but the second man ran away on foot. He then barricaded himself inside a residence at 22 Eureka Street, but eventually gave himself up.

Deputies, with assistance from Marin City and Sausalito police, diverted rush hour traffic from the area, until he surrendered. Deputies convinced the second man to come out at around 6 p.m.

Both suspects are Marin City residents. Elijah L. Howard, 38 and Henry D. Walker, 41, each face several weapons and drug charges.
A search of Howard’s residence uncovered a semi-automatic rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. This included a “high-capacity 100-round magazine, a 30-round magazine and hundreds of rounds of ammunition” (Marin Independent).

Later, deputies found a handgun, believed tossed from the car window, while the suspects were being chased.

Howard now faces four weapons-related charges, as well as charges for evasion and resisting or obstructing an officer. In addition, Howard has two prior arrests for weapons and drugs. Howard is presently no longer in custody.

His driving companion, Walker remains in custody at Marin County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond. Walker faces four weapons-related charges. That’s in addition to charges for possession of a controlled substance and destroying or concealing evidence.

Walker has 20 prior arrests. These include arrests for firearms, drugs and failures to register as a sex offender.
