BERKELEY — Local skateboarder and contractor, George Barajas remains in custody, accused of assaulting a woman with his skateboard last month.

The suspect Barajas was arrested on March 28, after police found a victim, a woman, who reported that she had just been assaulted and robbed by him on the street.

Police said the victim was knocked to the ground by her acquaintance during an altercation, near the intersection of Sacramento Street and Berkeley Way.

Barajas is accused of beating the woman on the head with his skateboard, after a verbal argument between them escalated to violence, and then robbery.

When the victim tried to get away, her attacker pushed her against a car, grabbed her car keys, locked himself inside her car, and then drove away, according to the police.

Police located Barajas who is a local contractor, and they arrested him at his Berkeley home without further incident.
Barajas is charged with grand theft, second degree robbery, assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily harm, and vandalism.

He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond, pending a pre-trial hearing at the Rene C. Davidson Alameda County Courthouse on April 10.
