MONTEREY COUNTY — The District Attorney’s Office has announced that 20-year-old Noe Chavez entered two no-contest pleas on charges of attempted murder.

Chavez has also confessed to “two enhancements for the personal use of a firearm and two enhancements for personally inflicting great bodily injury.”

It all began on February 15th of this year, when Chavez approached an unknown man outside a tent encampment in Chinatown. The two spoke briefly before Chavez drew a gun and began shooting, both at the man he was talking to and other transients nearby.

Multiple people were struck and suffered injury, though none were fatal.

Police located and arrested Chavez in Chinatown on February 24th.

He is due to be sentenced on September 6th in Monterey County Superior Court and faces 15 years in state prison.
