Redding Police: No Arrest for Self-Defense Shooter

REDDING — Just before 5 PM on February 19th, Redding Police officers arrived on the 3300 block of Woodburry Drive regarding 29-year-old Joshua Horak of Tacoma, Washington.

Horak and his girlfriend were apparently visiting her grandparents in Redding when Horak became verbally and physically aggressive, to the point where his girlfriend’s grandfather told him he was no longer welcome in their home. Horak erupted into a barrage of insults and threats, at which point the man armed himself. Horak tried to charge him and received a single gunshot wound for his trouble.

Though initially incapacitated, Horak got back up and tried attacking a second time, for which he was promptly shot a second time.

Police were called and Horak was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, which are reportedly non life-threatening. His condition is listed as stable.

Though the handgun was confiscated as evidence, Horak’s girlfriend’s grandfather has not been arrested.

The investigation is ongoing and the case is due to be reviewed by the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
