Murder victim identified as San Jose’s 45th of the year

SAN JOSE — The details of the homicide that occurred around November 16th is now being described by San Jose Homicide investigators as a murder/suicide. Details started to emerge after the body of 61-year-old Sinh Dung Nguyen was found near his home on the 2100 block of Turnhouse Lane on November 17, 2016, in San Jose near the Evergreen District.

When police arrived, it was clear that a homicide had occurred.  Details of Nguyen’s death showed that he had died as a result of blunt force trauma.

This is San Jose city’s 45th homicide of the year.

Prior to finding Sinh Nguyen’s body, his wife, 57-year-old Cuc Thi Nguyen, was found suffering a medical distress near the 2900 block South White Road. After being taken to a hospital, she died as a result of what was presumed to be a suicide.

Investigators determined that Nguyen beat her husband to death before killing herself.

A second homicide victim was also located just four days earlier also in the Evergreen area.  San Jose Police identified 33-year-old Gustavo Pinal as the person found shot to death near the 3000 block of Peppermint Drive in San Jose.

According to Sergeant Enrique Garcia, “On Sunday, November 13, 2016, at 1:05 PM, San Jose Police Officers responded to the 3000 block of Peppermint Dr. on a call of a person stabbed.”  Homicide investigators determined that Pinal was shot and not stabbed as originally thought by the passerby who found the body.  The investigation into the shooting death of Pinal is ongoing.

This was San Jose city’s 44th homicide of the year.
