SACRAMENTO—A local man has been arrested on suspicion of several sexual assault offenses dating back to this past November.

Sacramento Police took Steve McCarter, 54, into custody on Friday, February 5, 2016. He faces charges of rape, attempted rape, assault and battery, and assault with a deadline weapon.

Police said that in November, McCarter allegedly picked up a woman near 55th Street and Folsom Boulevard and took her to a nearby motel where they both willingly rented a room together. However, once inside, the victim told police that he made unwanted sexual advances. When she tried to leave, he physically and sexually assaulted her.

Just last month, McCarter picked up another woman and drove her to a motel and demanded sex acts. When she refused, he physically assaulted her and ripped off some of clothing. She was able to defend herself with a knife and escape from the room, but did sustain injuries to her body.

Police believe there are other victims and are asking the public to call the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert 443-4357 if they have any information. They can also text 274637 and enter SACTIP. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
