Helicopter Helps Stop Three Thieves in Clovis

CLOVIS – A sheriff’s helicopter crew helped track down three men who stole clothing from the Kohl’s store at the Sierra Vista Mall over the weekend and then fled the scene.

The three suspects, identified as Mark Bettencourt, Isaac Romero and Travis Alcorta, stole clothing from Kohl’s around 6 p.m. on Saturday. A security guard started to follow the suspects in their vehicle as they sped away from the store, according to authorities.

A Fresno County Sheriff’s Department helicopter was called to assist police in locating the vehicle. The chopper spotted the vehicle driving erratically and speeding south on Clovis Avenue near Shields Avenue. The helicopter shined its spotlight on the car to help police on the ground locate the suspects.

The car pulled over and at least one of the suspects tried to run from the car toward the nearby California Air National Guard base, but was immediately apprehended. The three men were booked into the Fresno County Jail, two on suspicion of burglary and violation of probation, and one on suspicion of drug possession and a weapons violation.
