Alcohol may have caused head-on crash

FRESNO — Alcohol may have been a factor in a head-on crash that occurred in southwest Fresno Sunday night around 8:30 p.m.

The collision took place near the intersection of Jensen and Polk avenues. Beer cans were found scattered around the crash scene. Investigators have not determined whether or not the Mercury Sable or Honda Accord involved in the crash contained alcohol inside their vehicles.

The road was shut down as crews investigated the incident. Four people were taken to the hospital but none of their injuries appear to be life threatening, according to Fresno police.

Police say the Sable was traveling eastbound on Jensen when the Accord crossed over and collided head-on with the Mercury model. The driver of the Honda was flown to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The female driver of the Sable was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. She suffered minor injuries and was able to walk away from the crash.

“It’s what we tell the public everyday. Its nothing new; if you’re going to drink, don’t be driving,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Felipe Ibarra.

The two adult passengers inside the Sable suffered moderate injuries from the accident.
