FRESNO, CA — Fresno police recently arrested a wanted individual after a brief pursuit and standoff, during which an officer fired their service weapon.

According the Fresno Police Department, officers were looking for an individual on the afternoon of Sunday, June 1, who was on parole and wanted for allegedly fleeing on two previous occasions.

When officers located the suspect at a residence on the 4700 block of East Turner Ave., they established a perimeter. The suspect then allegedly came out of the residence with a gun, got into his car, and tried to flee by ramming through nearby fences.

The suspect also brandished the gun at officers, one of whom responded by firing a shot from their service weapon. The suspect was not hit, police said.

A standoff then followed, with the suspect reportedly staying within the police perimeter.

After an unspecified amount of time, with the suspect reportedly staying in contact with crisis negotiators throughout, the suspect ultimately surrendered without incident.

Gun confiscated during arrest

The suspect, whom police have identified as 23-year-old Andrew Garcia, complained of pains from colliding against objects with his vehicle and was taken to an area medical center for evaluation, police said.

Garcia was later booked at the Fresno County jail on suspicion of felony vandalism, brandishing, and resisting arrest.

He was also on active parole for assault and domestic violence convictions at the time of the arrest, and is expected to face charges for violation of parole, according to police.
