Palo Alto Police arrest multiple teen suspects in attempted burglary

PALO ALTO — During a brief investigation into a possible burglary by multiple teens a knock came at a neighbors door just a few blocks from the first attempted burglary.  Police were called by the resident reporting that several juveniles where trying to enter their home.

Responding officers were able to locate three juveniles at the home.  However, a fourth was able to drive away, escaping police detainment and eventual custody.

The incident was reported on February 5, when a call came in to the 9-1-1 dispatch center around 8:36 p.m.  One of the teens had been repeatedly been banging on the door of a residence located on the 4100 block of Georgia Avenue in Palo Alto.

The owner of the home, not recognizing the suspect, was cautious and immediately reported the incident in fear for their safety.

Palo Alto Police drove to the residence and watched as several teens emerged from a side yard of a home on the 600 block of Georgia Avenue, just a block away from the first house they had tried to enter.

PAPD officers stopped two of the suspects, while two others took off running.  One suspect was able to escape in a blue Honda Odyssey mini-van.  A third juvenile suspect was located a block away and was arrested without incident.

The investigation revealed that the suspects had removed two screens from windows in the rear yard of the home from which the officers observed them leaving.  They were not able to make entry into the home, which was unoccupied at the time.

The three suspects located on the property were 16-year-olds out of San Jose.  One girl and two boys were arrested on felony burglary and taken to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.

According to Palo Alto Police, “Detectives are actively investigating this case, to include attempting to identify the outstanding suspect (who is only described as a Hispanic male teenager).” It is thought that the suspects may also be responsible for other residential burglaries in Palo Alto and other outlying areas.
