Suspect who Fled Scene of Fatal Hit-and-Run Arrested at Home

SAN JOSE — Police have announced the arrest of a suspect believed to have been involved in a fatal hit and run, an incident which marks San Jose’s 11th fatality of 2016.

Police say that on March 4th at approximately 2:47 A.M., officers responded to the area of Camden & Leigh on a reports of a collision between a Dodge SUV and a Nissan pick-up truck.

Once on scene, officers found two vehicles in the road that had sustained major damage. The driver of the SUV had fled, and the driver of the truck — an adult male of unspecified age — was pronounced dead at the scene.

The San Jose Police Traffic Investigation unit was called to the scene and took over the investigation. The suspect and driver of the SUV was soon identified as 21-year-old Xavier Villaruel.

Upon learning that Villaruel had fled the scene following the collision, authorities were able to obtain a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested at his home without incident and taken to the Santa Clara County Main Jail on a charge felony DUI.
