Santa Clara County Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Partner’s Infant Child

A Santa Clara County man has been arrested for the alleged fatal shooting of his live-in partner’s 3-year-old son.

According to a press release by the Santa Clara Police Department, officers responded in the early morning hours of February 20 to a reported shooting on the 3700 block of Poinciana Drive. The caller reported that their boyfriend had shot their 3-year-old child.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound. Despite CPR attempts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

A male suspect, identified as 24-year-old Sergio Colin Gomez, was apprehended near the scene after allegedly resisting arrest. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Gomez is anticipated to face murder charges and will be booked into the Santa Clara County main jail.
