Susanville Police: Man seriously injured in suspected honey oil lab explosion

A Susanville man was severely injured after accidentally setting off an explosion while running a honey oil lab out of a motel room, police said.
On the evening of March 1, officers responded to a room at the River Inn Motel on Main Street to investigate a report of an explosion. Arriving officers noticed immediately that one of the rooms had sustained significant damage.
Officers then spoke with 37-year-old Kyle Coger, who’d been renting the room in question and had clearly sustained major burn injuries. Fire personnel responded to the scene to ensure Coger was treated for his injuries.
Investigating officers went through the motel room and reportedly discovered evidence indicating that Coger may have been using the room for a honey oil lab. A young child was also found to have been present at the time of the explosion, but was not injured.
Coger was later transported to the UC Davis Burn Unit for further treatment. Police say that multiple charges related to the explosion are expected once he has been medically cleared.
