Police Clear Middletown High School After Investigation Finds Gun Report Unsubstantiated
MIDDLETOWN, CA — An investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office concluded that a report of a firearm on campus at Middletown High School on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, was unfounded.
Deputies and detectives responded to the high school earlier in the day following information alleging that a student had brought a firearm onto the premises. Administrators placed Middletown High School and nearby academic campuses on lockdown while law enforcement personnel secured the scene and evaluated the situation.
Following a search and investigation, sheriff’s deputies determined there was no firearm on site and characterized the initial report as unsubstantiated. The lockdown orders were subsequently lifted.
Sheriff’s Office officials acknowledged the cooperation of Middletown Unified School District staff, students, and parents during the security operation and reiterated that all potential school safety threats are investigated fully by law enforcement.
