Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office Clarifies Social Media Rumors Regarding ICE Activity

MARIPOSA COUNTY, CA — Local officials have issued a public clarification directly addressing social media posts that allege federal immigration enforcement sweeps are taking place within Mariposa County.

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed following direct communication with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that no large-scale ICE operations, raids, or sweeps are occurring within the jurisdiction. Officials clarified that images currently circulating on social platforms depicting law enforcement personnel do not involve Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office staff.

Sheriff’s Office representatives noted that while outside agencies may occasionally enter the county to perform individual investigative duties, targeted actions do not constitute community-wide enforcement operations.

The agency re-emphasized that local sheriff’s personnel do not conduct or coordinate federal immigration enforcement duties, citing immigration enforcement as a federal responsibility. Members of the public with inquiries regarding federal immigration activities are directed to contact U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or the Department of Homeland Security.
