Flock Camera Technology Aids in Arrest of Suspect Who Used Car Door as Weapon
MARINA, CA — Inter-agency collaboration and FLOCK camera license plate reader technology led to the swift apprehension of a suspect accused of assaulting a victim with a vehicle door outside a Seaside coffee shop.
On September 28, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Seaside Police Department officers responded to a local coffee shop following reports of a assault. Investigators determined that an adult male suspect allegedly used his vehicle door as a weapon, striking a victim in the leg before fleeing the scene in a white Audi convertible.
A Marina Police Department officer monitoring regional calls for service via an in-car computer queried the suspect vehicle details through the Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system. The cameras detected the Audi traveling within the neighboring city of Marina.
Marina police officers conducted a targeted area check and located the unoccupied Audi parked in a Walmart parking lot. Officers established covert surveillance on the vehicle. A short time later, officers observed the suspect return and enter the driver’s seat. Marina officers converged on the vehicle and safely took the suspect into custody.
Seaside police officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter to assume custody of the suspect and transport him for booking.
Law enforcement officials highlighted the arrest as an example of effective regional cooperation and demonstrated the ongoing utility of ALPR technology in solving violent incidents.
