Ukiah Man Arrested for Allegedly Shooting at Neighbor’s House with Rifle
UKIAH, CA — “On 09/17/2026 at approximately 07:07 P.M., the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call regarding a subject who had brandished a rifle at the caller and her husband on Eastside Calpella Road in Ukiah, CA. While they were retreating into their residence, the caller and her husband heard gunshots. The caller stated she was in fear for her and her husband’s safety as she believed the subject shot at her or her residence.
Deputies arrived at the location in the 5000 block of Eastside Calpella Road and learned that a neighbor identified as Skyler Dausman had brandished and pointed a rifle in their direction as the victim arrived home. It was learned there had been ongoing civil issues between the two parties, when the subject produced a rifle and fired it on 09/17/2026. The victim believed the rifle had been pointed at them and fired in their direction.
Sheriff’s Deputies from other areas responded with Officers from the California Highway Patrol to assist with this investigation. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office also responded to this incident.
Based on the circumstances of the information received, Sheriff’s Deputies immediately began attempting callouts to Dausman, however they received no response. When attempting to have Dausman come out of his residence, it was learned Dausman was prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition due to previous criminal convictions. Due to the nature of the call, a Nixle alert was sent out to the public to notify them of law enforcement activity in the area.
After approximately an hour of not responding or complying with the lawful orders of law enforcement, Dausman eventually exited his residence. During law enforcement’s attempts to take Dausman into custody, Dausman resisted Sheriff’s Deputies but was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
A search warrant was authored and granted for Dausman’s residence, which resulted in evidence related to this investigation being located and seized.
Dausman was transported to the Mendocino County Jail and booked on the listed charges. Dausman is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
