Suspects from Southern California Arrested for Targeting Tiburon Hikers
TIBURON, CA — Police arrested two suspects from Southern California on September 6, implicated in Tiburon vehicle burglaries and identity thefts targeting hikers. Both men remain in custody at Marin County Jail, pending review of open charges.
The suspects are identified as Jaime R. Garrido-Guerrero, 64, of Inglewood; and Hernan Reyes-Correa, 55, of Los Angeles. They face charges involving conspiracy, grand theft, forgery, fraud, receiving stolen property, and possession of burglary tools.
Multiple vehicles were broken into at Blackie’s Pasture parking lot, used by hikers to access the Old Rail Trail in Tiburon. Credit and debit cards were stolen from parked vehicles, and used to make fraudulent purchases in Corte Madera, and San Francisco.
Garrido-Guerrero and Reyes-Correa allegedly cased the parking lot, and broke into vehicles, as soon as the hikers walked away.
Tiburon detectives linked a Ford Explorer to the crime spree. Surveillance video recordings from retail stores reportedly show the two suspects making unauthorized purchases with stolen cards.
Police arrested Garrido-Guerrero and Reyes-Correa at the Tamalpais Motel, located at 680 Redwood Highway in nearby unincorporated Strawberry. They were taken into custody at 8:18 a.m., and too late for free breakfast that day at Marin County Jail.
Both suspects have prior arrest histories in Southern California. Garrido-Guerrero has previous arrests involving burglaries, identity thefts, and tampering with a vehicle. Reyes-Correa has a prior arrest on his record for burglary in San Bernardino County in 2019. In addition, his booking record indicates he had outstanding warrants.
