D.A. Files Charges Against Suspected Serial Child Molester
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — “The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is seeking for a third time to send a suspected serial child molester to jail, pending a trial.
Anthony Joseph Ramon, 25, of Gilroy, will be arraigned tomorrow on three felony child molestation charges at 9:00 a.m. in the South County Morgan Hill Courthouse. The defendant, a YMCA camp counselor accused of molesting the young children in a pool, has bailed out for each of his three arrests on three charges – which came one at a time as new victims came forward.
If convicted of the charges, Ramon could face years in prison.
Assistant District Attorney Terry Harman will attend the hearing and make public comments afterward.
‘Bail should always be about protecting public safety,’ District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. ‘The idea that a person suspected of sexually abusing multiple children should get the same chance at freedom as a person accused of mail fraud or some other non-violent crime is wrong, and dangerous.’
Ramon was supervising the children during a June 30 summer camp field trip to the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center. After the trip, Morgan Hill police received information and arrested Ramon on July 9 for sexually touching a 10-year-old girl while in the pool. Ramon was released on $100,000 bail.
On July 16, police arrested Ramon again, this time for touching another 10-year-old girl in the pool during the same field trip. The DA’s Office asked for him to be held without bail. A judge set the bail amount at $200,000 and he was released.
A third victim came forward – another 10-year-old girl whom the counselor had sexually touched in the pool that trip. Ramon was arrested on July 27. The DA’s Office asked for no bail. The judge set bail at $50,000.
In all, the defendant raised the total $350,000 bail amount by paying $24,500 to bail bond companies.”
