FILLMORE, CA — August 31, 2026 – A Fillmore man is in custody for allegedly causing serious injury to a man during an assault in downtown Fillmore.
Just after midnight on the morning of August 30, Ventura County Sheriff’s
Department deputies were called to a downtown Fillmore street scene pursuant to a
reported assault. Upon arrival, they discovered a seriously injured man at the scene who
was promptly evacuated to a local area hospital.
According to VCSD spokesman Sgt. Jarrod Foote, the immediately ensuing
investigation determined that the man had allegedly been attacked by
Fillmore resident Bret Endicott, 54. Those at the scene reported that the assault involved
force likely to cause serious bodily injury.
Endicott, who had fled the scene before deputies arrived, was found a short time later
during a search by deputies of the surrounding area. That search led to the discovery of
additional evidence in Endicott’s possession that connected him to the attack.
Based on information gathered during the investigation, deputies was taken into custody
and arrested Endicott. He was transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked
on a charge of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and making
criminal threats. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
