Suspicious Person Call in Thousand Oaks Leads To Arrest of Armed Drug Dealer

THOUSAND OAKS, CA  — July 20th 2026 — A “suspicious person” call led to the arrest of  an armed drug dealer.

Juan Carlos Gonzalez Martinez, 29, of Thousand Oaks, was contacted by Ventura Sheriff’s deputies on July 17 in a Thousand Oaks neighborhood.

During their contact with Martinez, deputies spotted a firearm “in plain view inside the
vehicle,” which quickly affected the tenor of the conversation. An “investigation”
immediately ensued, whereupon Gonzalez Martinez was determined to be “under the
influence of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.” He was then taken
into custody.

Additional evidence inside the vehicle, including “a large amount of
currency, two ounces of methamphetamine, an unregistered firearm, a fictitious driver’s
license and numerous rounds of ammunition.”

The arrival of detectives assigned to the Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit and
the Gun Violence Reduction Program to the scene led to further investigation of the
vehicle and the discovery of “electronic scales and packaging materials commonly
associated with narcotics trafficking.”

Gonzalez Martinez was transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on
charges of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, carrying a
loaded firearm in a vehicle, unlawful transfer of a firearm, possession of a forged
driver’s license, being under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession
of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of sales.
He remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
