Redwood Valley Disturbance Call: Man Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Deputies While Drunk in Public
REDWOOD VALLEY, CA — “On 08/27/2026 at approximately 9:25 P.M., Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 8000 block of East Road in Redwood Valley regarding a male subject reportedly under the influence of alcohol and causing a disturbance.
The reporting party identified the subject as Joshua Viayra, who Sheriff’s Deputies knew to have a Misdemeanor warrant for his arrest out of Mendocino County for 166.4 PC – Violation of a court order. Deputies were advised that Viayra was breaking and throwing items inside the residence and acting violently. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was requested to assist.
Prior to the Sheriff’s Deputies arriving at the scene, Viayra left the residence. A Sheriff’s Deputy contacted the reporting party at the residence, who reported that Viayra had been consuming alcohol, punching doors, and acting aggressively.
The Sheriff’s Deputy subsequently located Viayra along East Road and observed objective signs consistent with alcohol intoxication.
The Sheriff’s Deputy informed Viayra that he was under arrest and gave him lawful commands to surrender. Viayra refused to comply and became increasingly confrontational. During the encounter, Viayra clenched his fists, assumed an aggressive stance, and moved toward the Deputy. Viayra made statements that he intended to physically resist arrest while refusing to comply with lawful commands to surrender, indicating his intent to intimidate law enforcement and deter the Sheriff’s Deputy from performing his lawful duties.
After the Sheriff’s Deputy displayed his Taser and continued communicating with Viayra for several minutes, Viayra ultimately complied with commands and was taken into custody.
Viayra was arrested on the outstanding misdemeanor warrant, 71(a)(1) PC – Threatening a Public Officer, 647(f) PC – Public intoxication, 148(a) PC – Obstructing a Peace Officer. Viayra was transported to the Mendocino County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.”
