Three Arrested Following Narcotics Discovery in High Desert Detention Center Parking Lot
ADELANTO, CA — On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 8:36 a.m., deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted a vehicle check in the visitation parking lot of the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.
Deputies first contacted two passengers inside the vehicle, identified as 37 year old Adelanto resident Darren Hawe and 32 year old Hesperia resident Ayla Vandargriff. A records check indicated that Hawe had an active misdemeanor warrant, while deputies located drug paraphernalia in Vandargriff’s purse. During the encounter, the driver of the vehicle, identified as 47 year old Hesperia resident Victor Diaz, returned to the car from the jail lobby and was detained.
A search of the vehicle yielded suspected methamphetamine in the driver’s side door, which deputies determined belonged to Diaz. Additional search efforts uncovered baggies containing suspected methamphetamine, used drug paraphernalia, and a vial of suspected LSD. During the booking process at the facility, an additional three baggies of suspected methamphetamine were located inside Diaz’s shoe. Records showed Diaz had at least two prior convictions for methamphetamine possession.
In total, deputies recovered 17.41 grams of suspected methamphetamine, approximately six used methamphetamine pipes, a vial of suspected LSD, and 1.5 grams of suspected marijuana. All three individuals were arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center.
