Barstow Man Accused of Sexually Abusing 5 Former Foster Children

A 71-year-old Barstow man has been arrested after being accused of sexually abusing five former foster children. Police are seeking additional victims.

Juan Antonio Esparza was taken into custody after a three-month investigation by detectives from the Morongo Basin Station and the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Crimes Against Children Detail. He now faces charges of lewd and lascivious acts on a child and oral copulation with a child.

The investigation into sexual abuse allegations against Esparza began on Monday, June 27, 2022. “During the investigation, detectives identified five former foster children as confirmed victims of sexual abuse by Esparza,” according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Esparza was arrested on the evening on September 15th, following a police interview. He was booked into the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino in lieu of $250,000 bail.

“Detectives believe there are other victims who have been victimized by Esparza and are releasing his photo. If you have any information regarding this case or have been victimized by Esparza, please call the Crime Against Children Detail at 909-387-3545.”
