JACKSON, CA — The Amador County District Attorney’s Office has announced the plea and sentencing of Joshua Ramirez-Blackwell following a domestic violence incident in Jackson. Ramirez-Blackwell was sentenced on July 16, 2026, to six years in state prison.
According to authorities, Ramirez-Blackwell broke into the home of his former girlfriend on May 14, 2026. While the victim was sleeping, Ramirez-Blackwell covered her mouth, struck her with a glass liquor bottle, and choked her until she faded in and out of consciousness. Two children were present inside the home during the incident.
Officers from the City of Jackson Police Department responded to the scene and observed facial injuries, neck bruising, and blood spatter inside the residence. Ramirez-Blackwell fled the scene prior to police arrival but was apprehended shortly after by law enforcement.
Following his arraignment, Ramirez-Blackwell pleaded guilty to a felony charge of domestic violence under California Penal Code section 273.5(a). He also admitted to an enhancement for personally causing great bodily injury under Penal Code section 12022.7(a).
His six-year sentence qualifies as a violent strike under Penal Code section 667.5(c), which affects eligibility for prison credits and increases mandatory sentencing for potential future felony convictions. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Grace Tillman.
