Woodland Man Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Underage Girls He Met on Snapchat

DUNNIGAN, CA — “On June 29, while Yolo County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisting with a wildfire in Dunnigan, they received a report that a juvenile under the age of 15 had been sexually assaulted by an adult approximately 12 hours earlier.
Detectives were able to positively identify the suspect, 22-year-old Woodland resident, Andrew Ayala-Chavarria. During the investigation, detectives also identified another 16-year-old victim of Ayala-Chavarria, while working with Woodland Police Detectives. It was learned that Ayala-Chavarria targets underage females he meets using the social media platform Snapchat. He befriends the females, provides them alcohol to the point of intoxication, and then sexually assaults them.
Yolo County Sheriff’s Detectives, working in collaboration with Yolo County Cameron’s Place, developed additional probable cause to arrest Ayala-Chavarria. On July 2, detectives obtained arrest and search warrants for Ayala-Chavarria. With the assistance of detectives from the West Sacramento Police Department and the Woodland Police Department, Ayala-Chavarria was arrested without incident at his residence in the 1500 block of 6th Street in Woodland. Detectives also executed a search warrant at the residence as part of the ongoing investigation.
While conducting a search of Ayala-Chavarria’s Snapchat account, it is believed that detectives have located but not yet identified other possible underage victims.
The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who believes they may have been a victim of sexual assault involving Andrew Ayala-Chavarria, or anyone with information related to this investigation, to come forward. Investigators are committed to identifying all victims, thoroughly investigating these crimes, and ensuring victims receive the support, resources, and services available to them.
