Deputies Seize Handgun and Arrest Suspect Following Fourth of July Shots Fired Call in Yuba City

evidence 2 - courtesy of sutter county sheriff's officeYUBA CITY, CA — On Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Sutter County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 600 block of Allen Way in Yuba City following reports of a dispute involving a firearm and discharged rounds.

Upon arrival, deputies secured the immediate area and initiated an investigation into the incident. Law enforcement personnel interviewed multiple witnesses and collected physical evidence from the scene to resolve conflicting statements regarding the event. Through the preliminary investigation, deputies confirmed that shots had been fired during an altercation involving two individuals.

Following the initial scene assessment, deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the execution of the warrant, investigators recovered a .45-caliber Springfield XD handgun believed to have been utilized during the altercation, alongside additional related evidence.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Gregory Fitch of Yuba City, was taken into custody without incident. Fitch was transported and booked into the Sutter County Jail on multiple felony charges.  No injuries to law enforcement personnel or members of the public were reported during the response or subsequent investigation.

Pubic court records indicate that Fitch currently faces the follow charges under case number CRF26-0001865:

  • PC29800(a)(1)- F -Own, Purchase, Receive, or Possess any Firearm by Felon or Drug Addict 29800(a)(1)
  • PC32310(a)- F -Manufacture, Keep or Offer For Sale, Give, Lend, Buy, Receive Large Capacity Magazine 32310(a)

Fitch is currently represented by a public defender and his pre-preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for Wednesday July 15th in the Sutter County Superior Court.
