NOVATO, CA — A felon prohibited from possessing any firearm was arrested on June 16 for
carrying a loaded pistol in downtown Novato.
Martin Aguilar-Zuniga, 26, of Novato, taken into custody at 6:19 p.m., following two earlier incidents.
Aguilar-Zuniga was first purportedly involved in a Novato road rage incident. Next he started
driving towards San Francisco, and he was stopped for allegedly speeding near the Golden
Gate Bridge.
A prepared statement from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said. “At approximately 1:43
a.m., a deputy observed a vehicle traveling approximately 100 mph southbound on U.S. 101.”
A traffic stop was initiated near the Spencer Avenue exit, north of the bridge.
The deputy observed 14 bullet holes in the car, while approaching the driver. Aguilar-Zuniga
claimed that he had been involved in a road-rage incident in Novato.
Intending to check for weapons, the deputy instructed Aguilar-Zuniga to exit the car, but he
refused to cooperate. Aguilar-Zuniga instead abruptly sped away from the scene, pursued by
the deputy onto the bridge.
The pursuit was ended in the interest of public safely, and Aguilar-Zuniga temporarily got
away. San Francisco police found the car abandoned. Aguilar-Zuniga turned up later on Grant
Avenue in downtown Novato, where county detectives placed him under arrest at 6:19 p.m.
In a prepared statement the sheriff’s office said. “Zuniga had a loaded .40 caliber pistol with a
high-capacity magazine in his possession, along with suspected cocaine.”
Aguilar-Zuniga was booked at Marin County Jail on open felony charges for –
· Addict in possession of a firearm
· Felon in possession of a firearm
· Felon in possession of ammunition
· Evading an officer with disregard for safety
· Obstructing/resisting an officer
