NOVATO — Mathew D. Malouf, 58, of Novato, remains in custody following his rearrest on
May 16, a second time for contempt of court.
Malouf evidently violated a court order, pertaining to prior charges for assault with a deadly weapon, and making criminal threats.
His most recent jail booking marks Malouf’s second rearrest for pre-trial non-compliance. He
was also arrested on March 25 for contempt of court. He remains behind bars at Marin
County Jail in San Rafael.
Malouf is accused of violating restrictive court orders, stemming from a threatened hammer
attack in November 2025. Malouf who is a contractor allegedly raised a hammer threatening
to kill a disabled man, unable to flee because of limited mobility.
The victim was pursued along the sidewalk on the 800 block of Tamalpais Avenue in Novato.
A witness intervened to help the victim, and fortunately no persons were injured. The witness
reported the attack to police.
Malouf fled and barricaded himself inside an apartment on the same block. Novato officers
forced open a door to apprehend Malouf and searched his apartment, with assistance from a
San Rafael police K-9 officer.
For the menacing hammer incident Malouf was initially arrested in November 2025. Including
his latest bookings, Malouf now faces two additional counts for contempt, in addition to his
original charges for assault and criminal threats.
