Fontana Police Department Arrests Juvenile for Reckless E-Bike Operation After Multiple Pursuits
FONTANA, CA — The Fontana Police Department Traffic Unit has executed a search warrant and arrested a 15-year-old juvenile following an investigation into ongoing reckless e-motorcycle and e-bike operation within the city.
The investigation stemmed from a specific enforcement operation on May 21, 2026, at approximately 5:27 p.m. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on an e-motorcycle operator, who fled the scene and led law enforcement personnel on a pursuit through the Hunter’s Ridge area. The Fontana Police Department’s helicopter, Eagle 1, tracked the suspect from the air while motor officers followed on the ground. The pursuit was terminated after the suspect drove into a water channel tunnel, preventing officers from continuing safely.
Subsequent investigation by traffic investigators identified the operator as a 15-year-old juvenile. Investigators determined that the same individual had previously fled from law enforcement during three prior reckless driving incidents on April 30, May 11, and May 12, 2026.
On May 28, 2026, traffic investigators served a search warrant at a residence in the 5000 block of La Sarre Drive. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident and booked at the San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall. The e-motorcycle involved in the incidents was seized as evidence.
Department officials stated that these targeted operations are a direct response to numerous resident complaints regarding traffic violations and public safety concerns. The department maintained that it holds a zero-tolerance policy for unlawful riding behaviors and noted that parents of minors who violate these laws may be held legally responsible.
Additionally, the Fontana Police Department is encouraging e-bike operators to utilize the California Highway Patrol’s free online electric bicycle safety course, which can be accessed at https://tinyurl.com/e-bike-training, to familiarize themselves with state and local regulations.
