Flock Safety Notification Leads to Vehicle Pursuit and Arrest of Castroville Man in Marina
MARINA, CA — Officers with the Marina Police Department arrested a Castroville resident last Thursday following a vehicle pursuit that began with an Flock Safety Notification. These notifications are part of an automated license plate reader program.
Officers received an alert from a Flock Safety camera regarding a vehicle associated with an active California Highway Patrol impound warrant. Law enforcement personnel located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the area of 2nd Avenue and Imjin Parkway. As officers exited their patrol vehicles to approach the driver, the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle. The driver traveled southbound against oncoming traffic on the northbound Highway 1 off-ramp, prompting officers to terminate the pursuit due to public safety risks.
Officers monitored the surrounding area and subsequently located the vehicle abandoned in a nearby neighborhood. A short distance away, officers contacted the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jeffery Tyler Mackay, who was riding a bicycle.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Mackay had multiple outstanding warrants for similar offenses. Mackay was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on the outstanding warrants, and the vehicle was impounded for a 30-day period.
