Suspect Charged for Murder of a Nurse at an Oakland Parking Lot

OAKLAND, CA — A suspect with six prior felony convictions is behind bars, charged for the
murder of a nurse who was walking in downtown Oakland.

Shacory C. Daniels, 39, of Vallejo, was taken into custody on June 4.
The 33-year-old victim from San Leandro, Lartey Solomon was fatally shot on May 31,
approximately 2:46 a.m. He was walking to his vehicle at parking lot on Harrison Street, near
14th Street, when an attempted robbery turned deadly.

Oakland officers responding to gunfire found Solomon suffering from a gunshot wound in his
torso. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives identified the suspect’s vehicle which fled from the scene, immediately
after the burst of gunfire. Investigators relied on automated license plate readers to track
movements of the vehicle, with a distinctive mismatched front bumper.

The camera surveillance technology directly implicated Daniels. Oakland police coordinated a
multi-agency operation in Menlo Park, where Daniels was apprehended.

A subsequent search of Daniels’ residence uncovered ammunition, with bullet casing
matching casings recovered from the Harrison Street parking lot.

Daniels remains at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release on bond, pending a
plea hearing on June 30.

Charges filed against Daniels include felony murder because the fatal shooting occurred
during an attempted robbery. He is also charged with intentional discharge of a firearm, and
possession of a firearm and ammunition by convicted felon.

Daniels has been arrested 12 times since 2015. His prior convictions include vehicle theft,
and assault with a deadly weapon (the vehicle) on an officer.
