Fresno Police Officer Injured in Shooting During Domestic Distrubance Call; Suspect Detained
FRESNO, CA — A 26-year-old Fresno police officer was shot and injured Saturday night while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Southwest Fresno.
Personnel from the Fresno Police Department initially arrived at the scene around 6:30 p.m. Officers identified 56-year-old Paul Rodriguez Cisneros as the suspect and determined that he was armed with a handgun. During the response, officers safely extracted a woman and an eight-year-old girl from the residence.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., officers attempted to contact and arrest Cisneros on domestic violence-related charges. As two officers exited their patrol vehicle, Cisneros opened fire. The 26-year-old officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the arm and was transported to a local hospital, where he is expected to recover.
Following the incident, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement expressing support for the injured officer and the involved first responders.
