BRENTWOOD — A melee erupted at a parking garage in downtown Brentwood, near Liberty High
School on May 26. Two juveniles were arrested, one teenager was transported to a hospital, and one
replica firearm was confiscated.
“Incidents like this can be concerning for students, parents, and community members who may
witness them,” Brentwood police said in a prepared statement. “The incident is considered isolated,
with no indication of any ongoing risk to the community.”
The chaos erupted at 5:25 p.m., among a large group of juveniles who reportedly know each other.
Police responded to quell a large fight still in progress at City Park Way and Second Street. The
disturbance involved theft of personal property, and reported brandishing of a what turned out to be a
fake handgun.
Teenagers scattered in all directions as officers arrived at the scene. Police saturated surrounding
downtown streets, initiating multiple short foot pursuits. One juvenile involved in the fight sustained
injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Brentwood police detained an unspecified number of juveniles, including one teenager carrying a
concealed replica Glock-style handgun. Fortunately, no real firearms were involved, nor were any
shots fired.
The two juveniles arrested were booked into county Juvenile Hall in Martinez. All the other juvenile
participants were released to their parents or legal guardians, pending further legal proceedings.
