Officers arrested 27 year old Adrian Leal on May 6, 2026, following a multi-hour standoff at Lightfighter Village, a veterans residence facility located on Hayes Circle. The incident began at approximately 9:24 a.m. when law enforcement responded to reports that Leal had battered a neighbor. At the time of the call, Leal was on pre-trial probation, which included terms prohibiting contact with the victim and requiring him to submit to searches of his person and residence.

Upon arrival, a second resident, aged 84, informed officers that Leal had forced entry into his apartment. The impact of the door caused an injury to the resident’s forehead. According to the report, when the victim attempted to contact emergency services, Leal struck the phone from his hand, causing the screen to crack, and subsequently removed items from the victim’s refrigerator before retreating to his own unit.

When Leal refused to respond to phone calls or verbal commands to exit his apartment, the Seaside Police K-9 unit, Drone team, and Special Response Unit Hostage Negotiators were requested for mutual aid. Negotiators established brief contact with Leal, but he remained inside his residence. During the standoff, Leal allegedly threw objects at a police drone and struck the walls of his apartment.

Following several hours of negotiation, officers from the Marina, Seaside, and CSUMB Police Departments entered the residence and took Leal into custody. Authorities reported that during the booking process at the Monterey County Jail, Leal lunged at an officer in an attempt to escape but was detained. He faces multiple charges, including burglary, felony elder abuse, battery, vandalism, and resisting an officer with violence.
