SAN RAFAEL, CA — A youth basketball coach remains in custody at Marin County Jail in lieu of
$130,000 bond, following his arrest on April 29.
Shaquille Hewitt, 33, was apprehended at his Sacramento residence by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
The coach allegedly sold cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy) and psilocybin mushrooms to undercover
detectives in Marin County on three separate occasions. His residence and a storage unit
associated with him in Roseville were searched for evidence.
These searches resulted in “seizure of a significant cache of drugs, money, and high-powered
weaponry,” according to a prepared statement from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies found 1.5 pounds of cocaine, 1.2 pounds of MDMA, and 15 fentanyl pills. They also
recovered six firearms, including one modified to be fully automatic; plus $197,000 in cash.
Hewitt was booked for possession of narcotics for sale, and transportation/sale of narcotics.
In addition, he was booked for manufacture/import/sale of a large-capacity magazine. He also
faces additional charges regarding the modified firearm and a silencer.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office special investigations unit led a three-month narcotics
investigation of Hewitt. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance during
this investigation.
The investigation of Hewitt remains ongoing. Investigators are working to trace the origin of
the firearms confiscated from him.
Hewitt has prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance in Placer County, and
possession of a firearm by a prohibited person in Sacramento County. He was on supervised
probation at the time of his most recent arrest.
