Multiple Arrests and Recovery of Stolen Mail Following Yolo County Investigation
YOLO COUNTY, CA — The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office has concluded an investigation into a series of mailbox thefts that occurred in January. The case began following reports of stolen mail from cluster mailboxes located throughout Yolo County. To identify suspects, detectives utilized various investigative tools, including camera systems positioned across the county and in neighboring cities.
During the course of the investigation, authorities identified a stolen U-Haul van linked to the thefts. Surveillance data indicated that the vehicle traveled between West Sacramento and Woodland on at least five separate occasions. These movements typically occurred during the early morning hours, specifically between midnight and 5:00 a.m.
Continued investigative efforts led detectives to two specific residences: one located in North Highlands and another in West Sacramento. Search warrants for both locations were obtained and subsequently served with assistance from the West Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
At the Sacramento County residence, deputies recovered the stolen U-Haul van. Officers also located stolen mail belonging to various victims and approximately one ounce of methamphetamine. A resident at this location, identified as Carlos Cervantes Sr., was arrested.
A second warrant was served at the West Sacramento residence. During the search, investigators recovered a large quantity of stolen mail, personal identification cards, and methamphetamine. Three West Sacramento residents—Moses Santos, Anita Santos, and Kimberly Chavez—were arrested at the scene.
The investigation resulted in the recovery of stolen mail, identification cards, burglary tools, and methamphetamine. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the support and cooperation of the assisting agencies involved in the operation.
