Shooting Suspect Held in Lieu of $1 Million Bond for Attempted Murder in Antioch

ANTIOCH, CA — Police investigating a shooting in Antioch arrested 43-year-old Jonta L. Davenport, of
Oakley, for attempted murder.

Davenport was apprehended and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on January 31, where he remains in lieu of $1 million bond.

The shooting incident occurred the previous night. Antioch police responded January 30, shortly after
8:30 p.m., to an alert from the city’s ShotSpotter automated gunfire detection system. It detected
multiple shots on the 2300 block of Buchanan Road.

Neither a victim nor a suspect were found in the vicinity, but evidence of the shooting was found.
“Officers later learned a 43-year-old female was brought to an area hospital with a gunshot wound,”
Antioch police said in prepared statement. “She was treated for her injuries and is expected to
survive.”

Investigators interviewed witnesses, collected evidence at the shooting scene, and quickly identified
Davenport as the suspect.

Davenport was detained the following morning in Marin County by San Rafael police, who turned him
over to Antioch police. Concord police also assisted in apprehending him.
Antioch police placed Davenport under arrest on January 31 at 6:30 a.m.. He was booked on
suspicion of attempted murder PC 664/187(A).

Davenport has several prior arrests on his record. California Highway Patrol arrested Davenport on
December 22, 2025, for hit-and-run resulting in property damage.

Davenport was arrested twice in 2022. He was arrested once for public intoxication. He was arrested
a second time in 2022 for a DUI with enhanced charges for having a passenger under the age of 14.
