Apartment Resident Arrested for Arson and Animal Cruelty Following Water Leak Report

CORONADO, CA — JANUARY 21ST 2026 — “On Tuesday morning, officers responded to an apartment complex in the 200 block of Orange Avenue to assist a property manager with a request to preserve the peace. The manager needed to enter an upstairs unit after the tenant in the downstairs apartment reported a significant water leak coming from the ceiling.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the interior of the upstairs apartment had been intentionally set on fire in multiple locations, and the water had been left running. While checking the residence, officers located two dogs inside a bedroom. One of the dogs sustained injuries as a result of the fire. Both animals were taken into protective custody.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Bomb Arson Unit responded to the scene and assisted in the investigation. A 57-year-old woman, who is a resident of the apartment, was arrested and charged with vandalism, arson, and animal cruelty.”
