MARSHALL, CA  — Marin County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a burglary suspect who fled
from a vacation home rental in the unincorporated community of Marshall.

Thomas Reed, 42, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on the morning of January 4.

Deputies from the Point Reyes substation responded to a report of intruder at a residence
situated on Highway 1.

The reporting party observed the intruder being recorded live by a
security camera. The vacation house was apparently unoccupied at the time.

When responding deputies arrived at the scene the suspect later identified as Reed
attempted to flee. He ran out the backdoor heading towards the nearby Tomales Bay
shoreline.

Deputies pursued Reed for what turned out to be a brief foot chase, before he temporarily
disappeared from sight. Deputies set up a perimeter and commenced searching for him.
Eventually, Reed was found hiding in nearby brush, where he was placed under arrest without
further incident.

Reed was transported to San Rafael for processing at Marin County Jail. Reed was booked
on suspicion of residential burglary, possession of stolen property, and obstructing/resisting
arrest.

In addition, he was booked for violation of Sonoma County probation, involving a prior theft
conviction.
