Traffic Stop Leads to Three Arrests for DUI, Warrant, and Loaded Firearm
DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — An officer with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department initiated a traffic stop on the evening of November 1, 2025, after observing a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner, which suggested potential driver impairment. Upon making contact with the vehicle, which contained four occupants, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the interior and noted the presence of several open alcoholic beverage containers on the rear floorboard.
The officer observed that the right rear passenger exhibited signs of nervousness and was holding a front window sunshade between his legs, which was noted as being an unusual action considering the time of night. Due to the violation involving the open containers, the officer directed the passenger to exit the vehicle. As the passenger complied, the officer reportedly observed a firearm situated beneath where the individual had been sitting.
Following the discovery of the weapon, the officer drew a service weapon and instructed all four vehicle occupants to show their hands. All four individuals were subsequently and safely detained by the officer.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of three of the vehicle’s occupants. The driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence (DUI). The front passenger was arrested based on an active outstanding felony warrant. The right rear passenger was arrested and charged with the possession and concealment of a loaded firearm. All three individuals were transported to the county jail following their arrests. The fourth passenger was released from the scene.
