Sheriff’s Office Warns El Dorado County Residents About Phone Scam

EL DORADO COUNTY, CA  –– “The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has become aware of a telephonic scam that is circulating through the county. Residents are receiving a phone call from a person who is identifying themselves as a Deputy, Sergeant, or Lieutenant from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, informing the call recipient that they missed a court date, have a fine that they need to pay in order to not go to jail, and to pay the fine over the phone.

This is not a legitimate contact from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office will never request a fine to be paid over the phone.

If you do receive a phone call of this nature and question the legitimacy of the caller, please contact the Sheriff’s Office to verify the information.”
