Monica Paniagua, 40-Year-Old Tulare Resident
On October 3, 2025 at approximately 12:20 p.m., Porterville Police Officers responded to a residence in the 200 Block of East Mill Avenue regarding a residential burglary. Officers contacted the victim, who reported that unknown suspect(s) had forced entry into his residence and stolen a significant amount of property over the previous two days. The victim provided a comprehensive list of items taken from his residence, which included a large number of power tools and accessories, with an estimated value of at least $12,000. Detectives with the General Investigations Unit assumed this investigation and began to pursue available investigative leads, ultimately discovering the stolen property was located in the City of Tulare and was being sold.
On October 9, 2025, Detectives responded to Tulare and contacted 40-year-old Tulare resident Monica Paniagua, during which they were able to confirm some of the items she was selling had been taken during the residential burglary. Detectives detained Paniagua and obtained a search warrant for her residence, which is located in the 1100 Block of South Morrison Street in Tulare, as well as a storage unit rented to her. During execution of the search warrant, Detectives collected additional property taken during the residential burglary and learned Paniagua had purchased the stolen items from Adam Joseph Gomez, a 42-year-old Tulare resident.
Detectives responded to Gomez’ residence, which is located in the 1400 Block of East Colleen Court in Tulare. After their arrival, Detectives observed additional property taken during the burglary in plain sight. Detectives detained the occupants of the residence and obtained a search warrant for the premises. During execution of the search warrant, Detectives recovered most of the outstanding property that was taken during the residential burglary. Detectives did not locate Adam Gomez during execution of the search warrant at his residence, but confirmed Gomez was responsible for the burglary and in possession of stolen property.
Based on the facts and circumstances of the investigation, Detectives determined that Paniagua knowingly received stolen property from Gomez and attempted to resell it through an online marketplace. Paniagua was later booked at the TCSO South County Detention Facility on charges of Receiving or Possessing Stolen Property.
Because Gomez’ whereabouts were unknown, Detectives sought an arrest warrant for Gomez on charges of Burglary and Possession of Stolen Property, which was later authorized by a Tulare County Judge.
On October 11, 2025, Porterville Police Officers responded to a call for service in the 800 Block of North Plano Street and contacted a male subject who was ultimately identified as Adam Gomez. Officers arrested Gomez for the arrest warrant stemming from this investigation and later booked him at the TCSO South County Detention Facility, where he is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The stolen property recovered during this investigation was later returned to the victim of the residential burglary.
