The morning of September 14, 2020, a man sleeping in his vehicle prompted a call to the Porterville Police Department. When police arrived to where the vehicle was parked, near the sub 100 block of West Belleview Avenue, they found the man, 42-year old Shawn Hampton of Porterville, asleep inside the car. With him was a 15-year old female, ward of the state, runaway.

The teenager is unrelated to Hampton. Hampton and the teen both denied any inappropriate activity had taken place between the two and the teen was put in the custody of Child Welfare Services.
