San Jose Man Arrested for Allegedly Slashing Bus Driver with Kitchen Knife

SAN JOSE, CA — An individual has been arrested for allegedly attacking a Bay Area bus driver with a large kitchen knife.

According to a press release by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on the morning of Monday, Aug. 18, to a report of an assault on a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority bus driver near Blossom Hill Road and Hillview Avenue.

Witnesses reportedly told deputies that the suspect, later identified as Darrian Lewis, 23, of San Jose, had repeatedly pulled the stop request cord and, when the bus operator confronted him, became aggressive, pulled out a large kitchen knife, and slashed the driver several times.

The driver suffered three slash wounds while attempting to defend himself. Lewis then left the bus and fled on foot. Deputies located him nearby and took him into custody without further incident, the sheriff’s office said.

Lewis was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, concealing a dirk or dagger, elder abuse, and probation violation.

The driver received medical treatment for his injuries, according to authorities.
