2016 brings new round of assault, vandalism, and public intoxication charges

SANTA CLARA — Santa Clara police have experienced a marked increase of drunk & disorderly conduct reports as of only 8 days into the new year. According to crimereport.com, there have been more than 80 incidents throughout San Jose and Santa Clara including assault, theft, robbery, and breaking & entering.

Throughout the night of January 1, 9-1-1 dispatchers received numerous calls regarding unruly disturbances. One such incident, reported at 1:30 AM, involved a possible fight and felony vandalism at a night club in the 2900 block of Lakeside Drive.

According to SCPD, an officer watching the main entrance noticed a male subject and female subject arguing loudly. The officer intervened with assistance from the club security guard.

Officers were also dispatched to another location at around 4 AM only to discover the female half of the couple on the ground.

SCPD officers made contact with the male subject, who made it apparent that he’d had more than a little to drink and was unable to look after himself. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail. By the time the woman was sought for questioning, she could not be located.

Another incident occurred at a dorm at Santa Clara University near the 500 block of El Camino Real. SCPD dispatch received a report of a male subject smashing windows at a residence near the intersection of Market Street and Alviso Street.

According to SCPD, SCU Security officers were able to detain the subject, who was later determined to have been extremely intoxicated. He was transported to Santa Clara County Main Jail and booked on charges of vandalism and public intoxication.
