PLEASANTON, CA — Lucas K. Chan, 28, of Pleasanton, is behind bars at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release on bond. Chan was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his father at the family’s residence.
Police responded August 15 at approximately 9:40 p.m. to a shooting at 4565 Helpert Court. Officers found 61-year-old Lance Chan suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided first aid for him at the scene. He was transported to nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told Pleasanton police that the elder Chan was shot following a verbal dispute. His son was placed under arrest at 9:58 p.m. The younger Chan was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder, and intentional discharge of a firearm.
That’s not all. Detectives investigating the shooting found improvised explosive devices and multiple firearms inside the residence. Chan also faces charges for possession of destructive devices, making destructive devices without a permit, and possession of a large capacity magazine.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office explosive ordnance disposal team removed the explosives from the residence. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were notified, Pleasanton police said in a prepared statement.
The unregistered firearms recovered from inside the residence are homemade “ghost guns.” Other evidence including a 3D printer were also recovered.
The investigation of the incident is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the Pleasanton police at 925-931-5100.
