Bay Area Man Arrested for Allegedly Abducting Partner in Her Own Vehicle
REDWOOD CITY, CA — An individual was arrested last week after allegedly forcing his way into his partner’s vehicle and driving away with her still in the car.
In a press release, Redwood City police said they received several 911 calls on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 13, regarding a man who had allegedly jumped onto the roof of a car in while yelling at the driver. The suspect then allegedly kicked and broke the windshield, entered the vehicle, and forced the female driver into the passenger seat, then drove the vehicle away.
Shortly afterward, another caller reported seeing the same vehicle with a shattered windshield near Roosevelt Avenue and Oliver Street, where screams were heard from inside. Police said one caller provided the license plate number, allowing officers to track the vehicle through an automated license plate reader.
According to authorities, officers and San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies found the car at about 9:40 a.m. near Woodside Drive and Fernside Street. Officers stopped the vehicle and detained the suspect. The female victim was also located at the scene.
Police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Hector Salgadotovar of East Palo Alto, and reported that the victim was his romantic partner.
He was booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of kidnapping, vandalism, domestic battery, and violating a domestic violence restraining order.
