San Mateo police reportedly arrested a hit-and-run collision suspect within hours of the incident.

19-year-old Fredy Marroquin Turcois was arrested on the afternoon of Saturday, July 23, following a hit-and-run early that morning, police said. Turcois had allegedly been driving erratically along northbound Alameda de las Pulgas, nearly causing several collisions before ultimately swerving into another motorist who had tried to get out of the way. The collision sent the other motorist’s car across the intersection of Alameda de las Pulgas and Fairfax, through a residential wooden fence, and into a parked car. The car Turcois had been driving was later discovered to have been stolen, police said.

Turcois was arrested at his home later the same day.

Turcois reportedly briefly spoke with the driver of the other car before fleeing the scene on foot into nearby residential yards, temporarily avoiding an area check by responding officers.

Officers continued their investigation throughout the day and, through area surveillance footage, happened to recognize Turcois from prior contacts, noting as well that he was wearing sport clothing allegedly stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Cornell Avenue.

After identifying Turcois, officers located and arrested him at his home on suspicion of hit-and-run, grand theft, and other charges. He was booked at the San Mateo County Jail.
