NOVATO, CA — A woman was arrested for allegedly hitting a 9-year-old boy and attempting to
steal his bicycle.

Kadija B. Sultan, a 29-year-old resident of Brentwood, remains in custody at
Marin County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.

The boy was attacked on July 30 in the middle of the afternoon, near an apartment building at
401 Ignacio Boulevard in Novato. Witnesses began phoning the Novato police at
approximately 1 p.m. to report the crime in progress.

“During the attack, she hit the boy and took his bicycle,” Novato police said in a prepared
statement. “Officers learned that the woman was a stranger to the child.”

Witnesses stopped the attack on the boy. They restrained Sultan until responding officers
arrived at the scene within a few minutes, and detained Sultan.

Paramedics dispatched to the scene examined the child who sustain minor injuries.

His parents decided to take him to hospital for further evaluation and medical treatment.

Officers placed Sultan under arrest at 1:03 p.m., and transported her to the county lockup.
Sultan was booked on open charges for robbery PC 211, and cruelty to a child resulting in
possible injury/death PC 273(A).

“We commend neighbors who intervened to protect this young child,” Novato police said. “We
do not typically encourage community members to become physically involved with in-
progress crimes for safety reasons.”
